5 Tips to Dress for Snow

If you are stuck in the snow like me, you probably have quickly grown bored of your winter style. Over the last few years of living in Eastern Washington, I have struggled to feel amazing in my cold weather outfits. This may just be due to my dislike of winter overall, but in 2020 I am trying to combat my style rut! Instead of dark color sweatshirts every. single. day. I’m trying out some fun colors and showing you how to layer like a pro!

Wear Neon

Gotta be honest, never thought I would be a neon person. My favorite color is black and I have spent a great deal of my life shying away from colors. However, this year I have grown to love neon, especially in green! While most people stick to black and dark colors, I think a bold color like this sweatshirt adds the perfect pop of interest to this outfit.

I also think the bright green is also ideal for boosting your mood! I know I can get grouchy in the winter when every day is cold and dark (especially up here in Washington!) so a fun sweatshirt really helps me to turn my mood around!

Layer with Fun Prints

I think the easiest way to elevate a winter outfit while also staying warm is to add a fun scarf like this one! I love the color block print even though the colors are neutral. The best outfits have contrast and variety; this scarf helps with that! Another benefit to the neutral colors is it will go with everything. I paired it here with a green coat and white sweater, but you could wear it with a thermal or anything black/white/brown. I also love how big it is, you can wear it casual like I have shown above, or you can wrap it around and stay extra toasty on a freezing cold day!

Bonus style tip! If your hair gets weird in the snow, just tuck it into the scarf!! You can also jazz up a winter outfit with a cute beanie or a fun pair of gloves. I just personally don’t like those on me 🤣

Anything Sherpa

I strongly believe one of the best trends to come out of 2019/2020 is SHERPA! I think this material is so cozy and anything I buy in sherpa has kept me insanely warm. The brand Thread and Supply does it best with their quarter zips like this one. I love how it has the kangaroo pouch and I kid you not you don’t really need a jacket when you wear this! I always am super warm in this sweatshirt and it’s the perfect throw-on item on a lazy winter day.

Play with Textures

This winter, I have also tried to play with different textures in my outfits. One way is to pair a suede boot with denim and a chunky knit like I did above. You could also wear a snake print boot with leather leggings and a giant coat to really stay warm. Although I wasn’t wearing it in this picture, I also threw on a big fuzzy coat over this outfit. Again, the big fuzz over a skinny pant is the perfect way to look chic while staying warm. The key with winter styling is to mix up textures while maintaining balance in shape. I personally like to wear skinnier pants and oversized tops because I find those to be most flattering for my body type. Definitely try to experiment with what works for you!!

Turtlenecks

Not going to lie, I was not a huge turtleneck person for the longest time. I found them to be stuffy and never really knew how to style them. Low and behold, I was influenced to buy this sweater from Free People and I seriously wear it so much!! I like how it’s not super fitted to my neck but it still keeps me warm. A thick knit like this is perfect for a chilly snow day because you stay warm while still looking chic! It’s also great for a bad hair day because it looks best with a bun 😂

I also love the oversized fit because I can eat and lounge in this piece without feeling restricted. Turtlenecks can sometimes feel like a permanent choke but when you find a piece with a larger neck hole, you are set! The wider neck also just looks flattering at goes great with scarves or a necklace.

You are Set

I hope you found these style tips to be insanely helpful! Until next time!!
