Casual Roadtrip Outfits for Summer

Midsize Friendly Outfits of the Week

This past week, I went to Leavenworth WA and drove to and from Spokane to get there! I also drove back from Chelan at the beginning of the week so it was a very travel heavy time. When traveling, I always aim for comfort and ease in my personal style. I love a good matching set so I still look polished while also being casual enough to last in a car for awhile. Also, after my travels, it was Hoopfest in Spokane so expect a few sporty looks as well! To see what I wore and get an in depth review of the outfits and why I chose them, keep on reading!

Black and White Loungewear

Kicking off the week I drove back to my apartment from Lake Chelan and wore my fave little ribbed crop tee. It’s an Amazon find and comes in a two pack in two different colors. On the drive, I paired this tee with a simple pair of black joggers. While the bottoms were great for the car, I decided to switch it up a bit when I got home and threw on some black sweatpants instead. I love a good sweat pant on a casual day, there is truly nothing comfier. The key to a good pant like that is looking for one with a soft material and a high waist. This option is from Abercrombie and something that I reach for season after season! If I were to wear this out and about, I would just add some lightweight sneakers or a slide sandal. Any sporty edge leans well into this overall look.

Matching Windbreaker Short Set

Something I have noticed in fashion recently is a nod to the 80s and 90s, particularly through windbreakers. This lightweight layering piece is great for sporty days and worked quite well for my Leavenworth road trip. I like how this option came in a muted green color and the bungee cords at the bottom of the pullover allow for a cinched waist. Alongside the top was a matching pair of shorts which is perfect for summertime. These shorts could be worn high or low waisted depending on your comfort levels and they do have pockets.

Pro Tip: purchase matching sets! They are a great way to have a complete outfit without sacrificing style nor having to think too hard. Decision fatigue is a real thing and this is oftentimes cheaper than buying two separates. Best part of basic sets like this one? You can easily mix and match them with other wardrobe staples in your closet. Talk about win win!

Green Fringe Dress for a Winery

For my full day in Leavenworth WA, Megan and I ended up going on an incredible winery experience! Rocky Pond Winery has a tasting room at the Icicle Resort in Leavenworth and the room now takes people on tours of the winery! Since it was a nicer occasion and I wanted to provide my audience with some winery wedding inspiration, I ended up wearing this gorgeous Adrianna Papell dress. It’s green, has a beautiful fringe and the quality of the garment is top tier. I felt absolutely beautiful in the dress and it paired rather well with the surrounding area. To make this dress a smidge more casual for a weekday morning, I just styled it with a giant denim jacket and a black platform sandal. This also worked well because the tour led you all throughout the vineyards.

Casual Activewear Dress Outfit

Toward the end of the week, I actually had a coffee first date! While it didn’t lead to a second, I did want to wear something cute and feel good when meeting someone new. Thus, I wore my favorite activewear dress from Abercrombie. It’s short but has shorts underneath to give you some extra coverage. It also has cute straps and just feels great to wear all day long. To make the outfit a bit more exciting and to combat the morning chill, I styled it with a cropped hoodie from Abercrombie and my favorite Reebok sneakers. These shoes have stood the test of time and I don’t plan on getting rid of them anytime soon.

Pro Tip: if it gets too hot to wear your sweatshirt, consider draping it over your shoulders! I love this preppy take on an active dress and if you enjoy the old money aesthetic, this is a great way to pay homage to that style. Any garment could go to the next level with a bit of thoughtful styling.

Sporty Going Out Outfit

Alright millennials I have some bad news, we are now forgoing our skinnier jeans and cute tops in place of cute pants and simple tops! Starting my party era in 2016, this has been a bit of a change for me but I’m honestly loving it. Over the weekend, I ended up partying with some old Gonzaga friends during Hoopfest so it was time to break out my favorite cargo pants, a basic crop tank and my new Nike pandas. If you’re looking for a workhorse shoe this year, it has to be these low dunks. I’ve been wearing them all throughout the week ever since I bought them in April. A lot of resale stores are carrying them and a few are going on sale each month at Nike!

Have a Fashionable Week

I hope these casual and fun outfits inspire your summer trips and adventures. Sitting in a car for long periods of time can oftentimes equate to the tried and true band tee and biker shorts. In 2023, I now challenge you to mix up your wardrobe and try some newer styling options. Lately I’ve been enjoying fun and baggy pants that nod to the early 2000s, plus playing around with sets and sporty accessories.
