Moving to my First Duplex

I Moved!!

I cannot believe I’m writing about a MOVE! On May 31, I moved into my first space in Tacoma Washington! I live there with my college best friend and her friend from high school. So far, It’s been incredible getting to organize and create a new space just for myself. Now keep reading to hear our journey to the space and get a sneak peek into how we are decorating!

Why I Moved

For some background, I graduated from college May right smack dab in the middle of the pandemic. I was living on my own in Spokane until I had to move home in March and I was hanging in Olympia ever since. Now, I am not a huge Olympia gal. It’s too small for me and I’ve just never quite felt like I belong. I prefer bigger cities and adventuring with ease!! I also was living with my parents which was not ideal for me either. I struggled living with 50-somethings as a 23 year old. As a young adult, I needed to be around people my own age so moving out was the natural next step!

How I’m Doing

While I have only been in my new space for about a week, I am already thriving (at the time of writing)! I decided to move in slowly since I’m moving pretty much on my own. More on that in a bit! As to my emotions and mental health, I’m a lot happier in my new place! My bestie and I get to hang out every night and we recently got the internet situated so I’m feeling more confident about my work life too. At this point, I just need to get into a routine for social media and everyday life!!!

Decor Updates

Now everyone is most excited for one thing; decorating!! Honestly I didn’t get the hype for so long, I normally don’t see a point in investing a ton of money in items that just sit around. However now that I have a good size room and a decor obsessed roommate, I’m starting to see the appeal! In honor of that, I’ve found some goodies to get my bedroom and bathroom looking fantastic.

Filming Corner

Shelves; Mirror (similar); Rug; Stool (similar); Plant

The first part of my room that is pretty much ready to go is my filming corner! I have a nice nook in my room that I’ll use for try ons and overall content creation. I wanted this space to be very ~aesthetic~ and bright. For the little rug, I went with a furry one from Amazon and behind the rug I added a huge mirror from Home Goods. I’ve also added a fake plant from Target to add some color and I added a furry poof to tie the space together. If you are thinking of creating any type of content corner like I have, I recommend doing so in an area that receives a good amount of light and allow that area some personality!

Bed

While I have my bed in the room, we are still working on getting my bedspread together. I ordered a gorgeous grey bedspread from West Elm but we are still awaiting it at the time of this post. I also ordered some furry pillow covers and will have pictures hung on the wall! Next to the bed, I have my little end table and a big gold lamp. I found the latter at Target and find the rounder design to go well with my more geometric aesthetic. As long as the colors coordinate, the shapes can differ and create visual interest!

Clothing Rack

Finally we have my clothing rack and styling area! I think this is my second favorite part of my room; it combines personal style with function and I’m obsessed. For anyone with small handbags, I recommend displaying them on little shelves for both storage and design. I also want to hang my big hats on command hooks but we haven’t made it that far. Nonetheless I am so pleased to have everything semi-organized and functional for both work and play!

Thanks for Stopping By

I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into my new room! It’s of course nowhere near done but it’s coming along rather nicely. I think the best spaces take their time to come together and let’s be real; it’s fairly expensive to fully redecorate a space so we have a little way to go. Regardless stay up to date on Instagram and be sure to subscribe to my blog for more updates!

Until next time,

Lauren
