5 Midsize Friendly Outfits for Thanksgiving

What to Wear for Thanksgiving

Getting dressed for Thanksgiving can be a challenge because you need to combine style with practicality. I am a girl who loves eating during the holidays so I am always on the hunt for outfits that you feel comfortable in all day but also look fashionable. Thanksgiving typically means cooking for me and family time and I will take any excuse to dress up! Plus as a midsize woman you can have so much fun styling different looks for this time of year.

Sweater and Leggings Outfit

Starting off our Thanksgiving post strong we have the classic sweater and leggings combination. Now this is not your average sweater and leggings outfit, for 2023 we are elevating our look with a pair of flared leggings and a chenille sweater. In years past I always showed this outfit with my Spanx leather leggings but now it’s time to branch out and go with something that has more volume. I personally love a flared legging or as us zilennials know it, yoga pant. They are super comfortable and less dated than a plain legging. Plus this outfit combo is incredibly comfortable and easy to style a variety of ways!

Pro Tip: try the groove leggings from Lululemon! They are so comfortable, super high waisted and long enough to fit even the tallest gals. I like how they are also flared but not so wide at the bottom that it is impossible to wear different shoes with them. Such a win!

Babydoll Dress Outfit

I got this cute little dress from Abercrombie not too long ago and I just adore it! I think babydoll styles are so flattering for midsize bodies and this satin material is just too good. This fall and winter I am noticing a lot of satin whether it’s in pants or dresses and I am here for it! It’s a great fabric for special occasions and if you are going somewhere nice for Thanksgiving this year this would be a great option. Alternatively I recommend this dress for Friendsgivings and special occasions where dressing up is the move. The quality of this Abercrombie piece is second to none and I like that it’s long enough for me to move around without feeling exposed!

Wide Legged Jeans Thanksgiving Outfit

Now heading back to comfortable outfits, let me put you on to oversized denim. I know some gals don’t like wearing looser jeans but hear me out, it’s a great way to be comfortable while still looking more pulled together than someone in leggings. I highly recommend this pair from Old Navy, the quality is fantastic and they are perfectly loose without looking ill fitting. I got my usual size and for a holiday I would style a pair of pants like this with an autumnal hoodie. I like this cropped option but a Thanksgiving sweatshirt would look just as cute. Finish the outfit with a cozy slipper and you are ready to eat!

Satin Skirt Thanksgiving Outfit

Our next outfit is a cross between dressy and casual which is the most realistic for my personal style. I have been loving the satin skirt trend, especially in a midi cut. This one is from Amazon and is great because it has a side zipper to get the perfect fit! For a skirt like this you can easily dress it up with a bodysuit and boots or go more casual like I did with a boxy sweater and sneakers. The best part about skirts like this is they are so versatile and since they are more fitted you can wear a ton of different shirts with them. This decade is certainly a time for voluminous bottoms and we are certainly seeing that in our Thanksgiving trends!

Cozy Matching Set

Our final outfit is perfect for my casual girls who don’t like dressing up at all! When I want to look pulled together but still stylish I always go with a matching set. I recently got this one from Hollister and I am actually obsessed. The quality of this material is amazing and I like how the sweatshirt isn’t too cropped. It’s also a bit of a different silhouette from my other outfits, this is a jogger style and honestly a personal favorite of mine. An outfit like this is ideal for layering so if you’re going somewhere chilly for Thanksgiving this year just add a big coat or vest and a slipper shoe. You will be ready to rest and eat to your hearts content!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope these Thanksgiving inspired outfits help you decide what to wear this holiday season. I know most of you are casual girlies and that is what I am focusing on too! Since I won’t be traveling this year I plan to keep my outfit and overall vibe low key. Remember casual fashion does not have to be boring, you can give any outfit personality with the right accessories and layers!
