5 Midsize Spring Outfits for Button Down Tops
Midsize Outfits of the Week
This past week was such a treat! I had a fabulous event for my dear friends Erin and Melissa for Trending Northwest plus a birthday party and some work for outside of the home. The weather here in Spokane has finally started to pick up too so I’ve been able to wear some more creative outfits without freezing my behind off. In this weeks post, expect a grab bag of outfits and spring inspiration for a whole host of occasions. Plus I am finally wearing some new Abercrombie pieces that have been hiding in my collection for days now.
Elevated Business Casual
To kick off the week I had a coffee meeting with my assistant so I wore my new long sleeve button down from Abercrombie. Instead of tucking one side of the shirt into my pants, I ended up crossing the bottom of the top into my jeans and it created a fun crossover effect that gives visual interest to the outfit. If you ever get bored with your basic tops, sometimes they might just need a style refresh to make them modern again!
Alongside the blouse I wore my favorite straight leg jeans that Instagram is obsessed with. They are super comfortable and classic enough to wear with any top. I also added some western booties and oversized sunglasses to complete the look. If you buy enough basics and neutrals, you can start to mix and match them to create endless outfits!
Waffle Knit Top Outfit
Our next outfit was incredibly popular on Instagram because of the cute waffle knit button down! It’s a Free People find and while it was a bit of a splurge, it was something I knew I would wear a lot and it’s definitely become a heavy hitter in my spring wardrobe. The material is incredibly soft and it drapes perfectly on me, you really can’t beat it! To stick with the casual vibes I added a simple tank and my favorite boyfriend jeans. I like to look like a boujee farmer if that makes sense. Finally I completed the look with my platform clogs from Jeffrey Campbell. They are a plastic material that makes it easy to style for everyday adventures plus the added height they provide always makes me feel a bit more confident.
Lightweight Button Down Outfit
Continuing on the button down trend is this super lightweight piece from Aerie. I normally don’t wear this many button downs but they have been the perfect layering piece for the warmer weather. This one in particular is super soft and is technically a pool cover up. I like wearing it with my activewear to give a casual, cool girl vibe. For this look I just added a black tank and my favorite black leggings. You could also add a purse and high top sneakers if you plan to wear this look out and about. The key to an outfit like this is making sure to wear fitted basics on the bottom to balance out how loose the shirt is. Otherwise you risk looking bulky and not as effortless!
Sexy Businesswear Outfit
Ahead of my event for Trending Northwest, I decided to wear some elevated business basics. It was technically a work event but I didn’t want to be boring as the fashion contributor. Thus I wore my favorite wide legged trousers from Abercrombie styled with the best lace corset top from Swank Boutique. This piece has become a new wardrobe favorite and the fitted nature of the top it was the perfect balance of styles. To complete the look, I added my favorite black blazer from Target. It’s another oversized piece which may not work well on someone petite but since I’m on the tall side and I added the fitted small corset, this outfit worked quite well.
Pro Tip: when styling two oversized pieces together, be sure to wear garments that are not super large and add contrast with a third piece. You want to ultimately wear your clothes not have them wear you!
Matching Striped Set
To complete the weeks outfits, I wore this iconic set from Target. It technically has a third piece which is a crop tank in the same print but I just picked up the button down top and the wide legged pants. I wanted to save this look for an upcoming beach trip but the weather was too nice in town for me to not wear this look. To give it a street take, I paired the set with my new Amazon sandals and a brown crossbody bag. When wearing big pants like this, I recommend wearing shoes with a platform. This way the fabric does not drag on the ground and you will elongate your legs ideally making yourself look taller and slimmer.
Have a Fashionable Week
I hope this weeks outfit ideas inspired your upcoming events and occasions! I just love spring fashion and have had a lovely time creating various outfits for all of my engagements. Whether you are looking for something to wear on a trip like the matching set or you have a big party coming up, there are so many great trends to incorporate into your daily style. Plus now is the time to wear button downs, I’ve amassed quite the collection and I love how versatile they are!
