How I Plan Outfits for Vacations

Vacation Outfit Planning

With our world opening up more and more each day, now is the time to start planning vacations! I absolutely love traveling myself; it’s the perfect way to escape the mundane world of suburbia while allowing yourself to grow and expand as a person.

Over the last weekend, I went on a short trip to visit my sister. On the trip over, my typical route was closed so I went a totally different direction and since I have gone on several road trips in my time, I was very comfortable adapting and driving an entirely new way. With outfits and styling, the more you practice the comfier you will be with the process so let’s dive in to how I prep my vacation looks!

Decide on an Itinerary

I am huge on planning and planning ahead! This means I am definitely the type to have an itinerary before going on any trip. While there is value in a flexible schedule, I do think outfit (and content preparation in my case) planning is best served when you know just what you have going on. When I went to Arizona in February, I made sure to plan each days activities so I knew which outfit would go best. This also allows for great social media content because you can dress according to the situation and create some fun pictures!

Bring Light Backups

As great as planning an itinerary is, there is also great value in bringing backup garments! I like to add an extra piece or two to spice up the outfits I already plan on wearing. Sometimes last minute things do come up so its best to be prepared with an extra top and bottom.

Pro tip; make sure these bonus pieces are rather neutral so they can go with any other item in your closet. Now is not the time to be trendy or attempt to style a difficult piece. Instead less is more!

Pack Outfits not Clothing

Another great tip is to pack outfits together instead of just garments you have laying around. Oftentimes I will use packing cubes for bigger suitcases but rolling your tops into jeans also works great. The key here is to keep your pre-made outfits together so when you are getting dressed on your trip, you’re all set! I also find this hack saves a ton of space in luggage and will protect your garments from airline theft (believe me, I’ve been there!).

Go Easy on Shoe Choices

My final tip is to scale down on shoes! I oftentimes find myself packing way too many shoes for trips and lately I’ve tried wearing my chunkiest shoe for travel days and keeping my lighter shoes in my suitcase. If your trip is in colder weather, do be cognizant of that and make sure your boots are properly stowed. This might also be a great time to use a vacuum for your clothes so they stay contained. Either way, shoes can get heavy quick so be smart!!

Safe Travels!

I hope these packing tips helped! As a frequent traveler, I have learned so many packing hacks over the years and as a content creator, I’ve begun to spend far more time planning out my outfits for photos. While this may be a niche issue, I still believe packing smart for a trip is essential and knowing what to wear in which location makes getting ready that much easier.
