Midsize Friendly Scottsdale Outfits
What I wore to scottsdale AZ
I just got back from Scottsdale AZ which was an absolute blast! I went to celebrate my friend and bride to be Kyra for her bachelorette party. During the course of this trip I wore a ton of outfits that I would consider to be mainly coastal cowgirl with a dash of colorful brunch attire. I will be honest with you dressing in Scottsdale is a bit challenging because I did feel a bit larger than the typical crowd. I feel like people in Spokane are not as thin and being midsize isn’t as strange. I’m not going to lie I felt a bit unattractive out there but I tried to compensate with fun garments that made me feel confident. To see what I packed for this weekend getaway, keep on reading!
Airport Outfit
Kicking off the travel outfits is the main travel outfit which is my airport outfit. I had a flight at 6 am so I was up before 4 am! I wore this cozy white long sleeve top from Amazon styled with my favorite flared leggings and some comfortable white sneakers. When flying, I love wearing activewear that is easy to relax in on an airplane. It’s also easy to move luggage in and when you chose simple neutrals like this, you look put together. I also layered a big denim jacket for the airport and it was an easy layer to take off and on as the desert sun began to beat down.
Pro tip, perhaps steer away from shirts with thumb holes at the airport. My hands got swiped during the security check and it was kind of embarrassing!
Beachy Coastal Cowgirl
I told you that coastal cowgirl is a big trend for spring 2023! I thought it was perfect for my bachelorette party because it was feminine enough for the wine bars and restaurants but western enough to match the brides last rodeo theme and my liberal use of cowboy boots. I got this dress from Rebel Hart Boutique in Spokane and it’s an incredibly comfortable piece. I like how long it is on someone 5’7 like myself, it goes well with both sneakers or boots. If you really want to lean into cowgirl energy, perhaps style this look with a black cowboy hat! I overall felt comfortable in this look as I explored old town and can’t wait to style this dress in other ways for spring.
Floral Coastal Cowgirl
Your girl really loves a theme! This next dress and boot combination is a cool toned version of the previous outfit. I loved wearing these boots throughout the day, they were pretty comfortable and they were easy to style with any dress. Again this dress is from Rebel Hart here in Spokane and I really like how it has a button detail and a print. This would be an excellent choice too for bridal or baby showers this spring season, it has great movement and it’s lined. To get that coastal cowgirl vibe, be sure to wear a taller cowboy boot and embrace the skirt of the dress going past the top of the shoe. It’s supposed to be more effortless and you can experiment with colors depending on your personal style. If you learn one thing from this post it should be to keep an eye out for the coastal cowgirl trend!
Black Western Outfit
On the first night we wore all black and the bride wore white to this crazy western bar outside of Scottsdale. Initially we were to wear these colorful wigs but they looked ridiculous! Instead we went with the shimmery cowgirl hats and I thought they were a better choice. To lean into actual cowgirl, I wore the same black cowboy boots as before since they are super stylish. I also went more party for nighttime and threw on my black satin mini dress. I am finding satin to be a trendy dress material and for good reason, it’s beautiful and drapes over the body beautifully. When shopping for satin, I recommend spending a little more on higher quality satin. It tends to be heavier in weight and moves over the body better than something thin and cheap.
Best travel Pajamas
Now, this pajama set is something I have shared on my platforms for years now and for good reason! It’s incredibly soft, has held up well in the 4 years I’ve owned it, and still fits like a glove. It’s perfectly loose on top and bottom and the elastic shorts are a staple. Plus with the black and white coloring they are a classic pajama that you can easily throw in a suitcase or overnight bag. While I recommend ordering these from Nordstrom during their anniversary sale, they are well worth the price during the regular seasons too!
Pink One Piece Swimsuit
On the second day, we spent the morning and afternoon lounging at the pool. I wore this new crinkly one piece swimsuit from Aerie and I felt gorgeous and comfortable in it! While I was the only one in a one piece, I didn’t mind too much because I sometimes prefer the modesty and extra coverage. To make the swimsuit more of an outfit, I added my new lightweight linen top from Aerie. It’s such a comfortable piece and something I’ve been reaching for time and again in my closet. When shopping Aerie, I found my true size works in one piece swimsuits. It was ever so slightly tight on my legs pulling this swimsuit on but I fear if I sized up, my bust would be too loose.
Blue High Waisted Bikini
In true fashion blogger style, I wore multiple swimsuits for the pool day. I changed partway through into my blue high waisted bikini again from Aerie. I really love this set, the color is just stunning for spring and summer 2023 and the high waist nature of the bottoms are my all time favorite. I never feel that great in low rise bottoms so these are my go to! Alongside the bottoms which I get in a L, I got the bra swim top and absolutely love it. It fits true to size and the gore is nice and high so you don’t need to worry about any slips of the nips nor any feelings of non-support. It may just be my new favorite way to get swim tops!
Matching Bachelorette Outfit
After we spent time at the pool, it was time to throw on some going out clothes! I ended up surprising the bride with a Champagne Train experience and she wanted us to wear matching tees for it. I love the fun graphic on the back of our shirts, it’s different from most of my graphics and the vibes are just right for spring. To stay comfortable all afternoon while drinking, I wore my favorite denim shorts and white sneakers. This is something I would wear also to a baseball game or an adventure of sorts so anticipate this outfit formula some more later this year!
Blue Clubbing Dress
Okay this outfit is definitely giving grown up Cinderella but I am not mad at all. The corset detail in the top of this dress is too good and it was actually quite comfortable to wear all night. Back in college when I would club more in Vegas I used to wear far more fitted and revealing pieces but they were rather plain. I like that this dress has a bit more pizazz and doesn’t feel incredibly revealing at the same time. For shoes, I wore what I am calling my muppet heels which are a feathery find from Amazon! I love the color and they are surprisingly comfortable for going out. I did end up taking them off at the end of the night because I was tired but you could do a lot worse with heels.
Blue Sun Dress
Our final outfit from the trip was this adorable blue mini dress from Target! I love this color for spring in particular, I’m noticing tropical shades coming back into style such as this bold blue and colors like tangerine. With this dress, I kept accessories pretty simple since this dress has a cutout back and puff sleeves. This meant adding a simple white sneaker for a shoe and my favorite Gucci Marmont handbag. For a final touch, I wore my new black sunnies from Diff but you could easily wear this with a gold sunglass too!
Pro tip: When wearing dresses in the spring, keep accessories and styling to a minimum. In 2023 there is a focus on simplicity and when you wear a bright dress with a lot of volume, it’s best not to let that compete with anything else.
