How I Balance Work and Life While Content Creating
How to Balance Work and Life
For a lot of us smaller content creators, working on social media is just a side gig. This means we are working a million hours a week and in my case, I never really have a day off. To many, this seems crazy and sometimes I think I may just be! However, I love working and continuing to improve my brand so I do not mind a bit. That being said, I do realize there is so much value to letting myself breathe and enjoy life for what it is away from a screen. If you are feeling burnt out in any way, keep reading to see how you can make the most of your time!
Create Relaxation Routines
I think having relaxation routines is incredibly valuable! In my case, I try to save Friday nights to watch RuPaul with my friends and have a little dessert of some persuasion. It’s not much, but I find this time to be really grounding and it helps me let off some steam and goofiness!
Other ways to create routines would be through weekly baths, movies, or other activities that you are passionate about! I personally recommend free or cheap activities so it’s easier to repeat but whatever works for you is good.
Lean on Your People
My biggest secret weapon for success has been leaning on my friend group! I try to invite my friends on mini adventures each weekend to help ground me and honestly it helps me take breaks from my phone and computer. In the world of social media marketing, there can this stressor of always being online to get those high engagement rates and thats just impossible! Perhaps someday when this is my full time job but certainly not now.
Another benefit to leaning on your people is you have a system to hold you accountable. I have friends both in the creator world and not; each help me maintain some balance in different ways. Also, since we are still reducing those we see, be sure to really utilize Zoom! I love meeting with my friends online to watch tv or just discuss life and the most random stuff 😂 Either way, its so crucial to bring other people onto this journey!
Batch Content Prep!
Now, my biggest secret to success in content marketing is batch prepping my content! Once or twice a week, I make sure to shoot all my photos for Instagram whether thats at home or when I’m out and about. I also try to section out time for caption preparation and just organizing my content in general. As to business emails, I follow in a similar suit by planning out big emails ahead of time. By thinking my work through before just uploading, I have a far easier time actually working and in the long run, I end up with more time to hang out with friends and family!
Enjoy
I hope these tips are helpful for anyone who is looking to work in content creation! As you start to find systems that work for you and your lifestyle, the balancing act will become easier! A little bit of preparation goes a long way so the sooner you organize your work and plan ahead, the more successful you will be come. What is your biggest tip to staying balanced?
Best,
Lauren
