Best Photoshoot Locations in Olympia, WA

Olympia, Washington

Ah yes, my hometown!! Nestled at the base of Puget Sound, Olympia is the capital of Washington State. While most come to visit the capitol building, there are several other spots to check out downtown! If you are a creative from the area, I recommend shooting around here and trying out these gorgeous locations ☺️ Keep reading to see my top locations!

Red, Yellow, and Blue Mural

Located across the street from Browsers books located at 107 Capitol Way N, Olympia, WA 98501, is this gorgeous mural. I absolutely love the bright colors and I felt like a casual outfit went well with this location. When in Olympia, always keep your eyes out for a cool mural. There are so many beautiful pieces and I’m LIVING!

Now, if you shoot here, be sure to shoot from below to really get the mural in the background. Remember when shooting, just let loose and have fun! These primary colors are amazing and really allow for your creativity and personality shine through 😄

Green Doors

Located in front of Tovani Hart at 609 A Columbia St SW, Olympia, WA 98501 is this gorgeous green door!! I love how industrial the hardware is while located in the middle of a small downtown. Like with the mural, be sure to shoot low in order to really create a full industrial look. This is super similar to my authentic style and I absolutely love!!

Capitol Lake

Earrings; Sweatshirt (similar); Shorts

When shooting in downtown Olympia, be sure to capture Capitol Lake! It’s an amazing view of the actual Capitol building and you truly cannot go wrong shooting down here. While you are taking your pictures, be sure to take fun shots and wander around the lake to get the most creative shots! Another benefit of the lake is the gorgeous fields around the water and the variety of backdrops in one area. Like with any shot, have fun with these shots and let your personality shine through!

Olympia Wings

Located at the corner of Columbia and Legion, the Olympia wings are SO cute! I love the bright rainbow and how long they actually are 😍 If you are shooting here, be sure to stand a few feet ahead of the center of the wings to properly frame yourself. If I were to shoot here again, I would go with a full black outfit and fully embrace my more gothic vibes. Regardless this place is a must see!

Olympia Boardwalk

Starting at the corner of 4th and Water St, there is a huge boardwalk spanning the sound. Between the beautiful boats sitting outside and the cute restaurants, you can’t go wrong here! Any kind of outfit looks fun here, especially if you are going for a brunch moment. Plus, while you’re out here it’s so fun to walk around and look out in the water!

Rainbow Railroad

And finally, located under the 5th Ave bridge, is the incredible rainbow railroad! It was so easy to walk over to the tracks and the views are gorgeous!!! I do recommend bringing a good pair of shoes because the surrounding area is a bit rough, however I felt totally safe and had an absolute blast. When shooting in a location like this, remember to mimic the longevity of the road and have fun with it!

Enjoy the Shoot

I hope these locations totally inspire you! If you aren’t from the area, I hope this reminds you to get creative in your hometown and never stop exploring. You never know what might hide in your backyard!

Best,

Lauren
