5 Creative Photo Ideas for the Holidays

Holiday Photoshoots

With Christmas just around the corner, I believe it’s time to start shooting some fun festive content! From wreaths to trees, the possibilities are endless when prepping for a holiday shoot. While the holidays are coming quick, you could always turn these ideas into solely winter shoots as well. Just change up the colors you wear and you’ll be set!

Pose with a Wreath

Each year, my mom puts up a huge wreath on our front door. I absolutely love how festive it is and I thought it would be fun for photoshoots! To showcase a new sweater I picked up this holiday season, I decided to model it with my wreath. From my face in the middle of the wreath to me carrying it; you can’t go wrong with a festive prop!

To personalize the content even more, be sure to decorate your wreath in brand colors or fun ornaments that speak to you! I just went with what I had, but wreaths are easy to transform into works of art. It’s all about having fun with your content at the end of the day!

Pose with Gift Boxes or Bags

One of my favorite holiday photoshoot ideas is definitely posing with bags and boxes! From shopping bags to Christmas bags, there is something so fun about a little prop. Bonus points if you get them to all match!

Now for a pro tip: If you can, play around with your bags and boxes! This allows for more dynamic photos and I find these images to be a bit more visually appealing.

Play with Ornaments

Another festive prop that photographs fabulously is an ornament! I had a glittery red one and used it as a Rudolph nose. If your feed is more on the goofy side, why not have fun with a punchy prop?

If the nose isn’t quite your speed, perhaps try and toss it in the air or hold a giant ornament. Either way, your photo will have extra visual interest and you can showcase your favorite tree decor!

Christmas Tree Hunting

One of my family’s favorite traditions during the holiday season is finding a Christmas tree together. This year, we went to a local tree farm and chopped down the perfect tree for our family. While we were out, I made sure to shoot amongst the trees! Whether that meant holding a branch or walking through the trees, you really can’t go wrong.

Play with a Garland

My final idea is to play with a garland! I found this one at Hobby Lobby for under $10 and it looks amazing draped around my shoulders. For more casual photos at home, the garland really elevates any look and the shine is too good to pass up. Whether you wear it like a boa or spread it on the ground, you can’t mess up this amazing prop!

Happy Creation

I hope these pictures provide you some inspiration for your next shoot! Whether you try these pictures before Christmas or adapt them for the winter season, each tip is guaranteed to make your Instagram feed a little more lively!
