How to Pose in a Sunflower Field

Day at a Sunflower Field

Last weekend, I was lucky enough to visit Schilter Farm in Nisqually, WA. I went around 4 pm and was able to wander around the fields and shoot for a good hour before heading home! While I was there, I was able to help pick some flowers for my friends mom and I got to shoot with so many fun props! Keep reading to see what I captured 🥰

Hands in the Air

One pose that is always adorable is the hands to the sky! I think this shot is perfect for Pinterest especially; it doesn’t show your face and goes with the free spirit nature of the sunflowers and sunny vibes. The key to this shot is symmetry and really making yourself the center of the shot!

Pose with a Prop

I don’t know about other fields, but the farm I went to had a few little props around the flowers! One of them was this adorable bike which gave me major back to school vibes. While I’m not the biggest biker, I had a great time posing on it and I really just had fun with the shot. The key to this image is to really have the bike/prop as the focal point and let the flowers blend into the background and solidify the summer vibes.

Walk Through the Fields

One of the best parts of the flower fields was wandering through them! I loved looking at the different varieties of flowers and I think some of my favorite images were of me wandering through them. The key is to always point your front foot when walking and always look into the sun on your “stroll”. The key is to show some movement or angling yourself toward the camera like you’re moving. It’s so summery and fun for pictures!

Hold Your Flowers

While I walked through the fields, I was able to also pick some flowers! We got a little bucket for them and I love how they look in a photograph! Whether you are cradling your bouquet or showing it off to the camera, it’s a great way to showcase your findings. It’s also a great way to draw attention away from whatever you may want to hide 😂

Use the Flowers as Eyes

I had to share the best look for last 🤩 The key to this shot is to strategically place the leaves! They *may* have drooped in my face for some shots but if you use the leaves as a face frame you’ll be golden. I also love how goofy the sunflowers look over my eyes; it’s a great way to add some personality to your pictures!!

Happy Shooting

I hope this helps with your next sunflower shoot! I hope to go back next summer and maybe even bring an outfit change that time around 😂Regardless of what you are wearing, just remember to have fun and let loose. The best pictures come from joy!!

Best,

Lauren
