Why Every Blogger Needs a Media Kit
What is a Media Kit?
What the heck is a media kit you ask? It is typically a document that explains what value you can provide to a brand! As an influencer or content creator, it’s essential to have a media kit when reaching out to brands for a collaboration. Earlier this week, I discussed media kits on my Marketing Monday segment and several gals reached out to learn more! So for my girls who are looking to expand into collaborations, this one is for you ❤️
Why Media Kits?
Media kits are the best way for you, the creator, to advertise who you are and what you have to offer. To start, I recommend having a clear brand and mission statement. When I pitch myself to brands, I let them know I am both a fashion blogger and a marketer. This specific niche differentiates me not only from other bloggers on Instagram, but adds value to my pitch for brands. Remember, as Influencers we are in a sense advertisers for brands and in charge of producing high quality content. When you add the media kit to this value proposition, you are telling brands you are both professional and prepared to work with them. Let’s now see what you should add to the kit.
How to Create a Media Kit
Now that you know what a kit is and why you need one, it’s time to create your kit! To start, head to Canva and look up their media kit templates. There are a ton of ways to design them, so keep to your personal theme when constructing your own. If you want to see how I created mine, be sure to sign up for my mailing list!! Once you get the design completed, it is now time to add in your content. When crafting your kit, be sure to add…
A blurb about who you are and what value you provide.
Statistics focusing on engagement rates, follower counts, and page views. Depending on the project, you may want to add the location of you and your followers.
What exactly you offer to brands including images, copy, and videography.
Next Steps
Now that your kit is ready to go, it’s time to contact brands!! I recommend sending your kit after the initial email inquiring about a collaboration. Recently, I read brands are less likely to read your email if something is attached. So start off with a pitch and add the media kit later! If you have any further questions, leave them in the comments below.
Best,
Lauren
