5 Midsize Dresses for Spring 2023

Dressy Outfits for Midsize Gals

Spring is basically here so it’s time to pull out the dresses! I love this time of year for fashion, the sun is starting to stay out later and hemlines are finally coming back up. It’s also time for spring break, weddings, and all sorts of social events. I personally have a bachelorette party and some weddings coming up so dresses and fun outfits it is. To see which dresses and special occasion outfits you should wear to your events, keep on reading!

Special thank you to Tiffany of Tiffany G Photography for these gorgeous photographs!

Printed Maxi Dress

This first dress is going to be perfect for travel and day adventures. I love printed maxi dresses like this for spring, they go well with both sneakers and sandals depending on what you have going on. I also would wear a dress like this for a backyard wedding since the colors are seasonally appropriate and the length is long enough to balance out the sleeveless design. For a more casual take on this dress, consider layering a sweatshirt over top and add your favorite tennis shoe. I really love sporty versions of feminine outfits, it’s the perfect blend of comfort and elevation!

Fitted Midi Dress

For something a bit flirty if you are headed on dates or you are graduating college, let me suggest this dress from Swank. It’s an incredibly soft ribbed material with ties at the shoulder and it’s fitted throughout. I also like the length it hits on me, it’s right around the knee which is always nice for this time of year! Plus I’m noticing a lot of butter yellows and delicate floral patterns on dresses this year. I always find pastels to be a safe bet in springtime, they are seasonally appropriate and can go well with white or nude accessories!

If you want to make this outfit more casual, you could also layer a big denim jacket on top and add your favorite tennis shoe. Belt bags would also work well for this style of dress especially if you are traveling or headed out on a long adventure!

Vintage Inspired Mini Dress

In springtime, there is nothing better than a farmhouse inspired outfit! I love this vintage looking mini dress, the colors are so cute and muted plus the tiered design is a fresh take on a shorter dress. I would totally wear this dress for Easter or to a wine tasting with friends as temperatures continue to climb. As seen above, I wore this with sneakers but it would work just as well with a sandal or short heel. If you don’t have a dress like this in your wardrobe, I would recommend picking one up. It’s quite versatile and can work in a variety of spring situations depending on whether or not you dress it up or down. Oh, and short sleeve dresses are a spring mainstay so I always recommend having at least one on hand!

Fitted Midi Dress

As we have seen for a few seasons now, y2k is back in style. That means lots of high neck tops like on this dress! I find a halter to be rather flattering, especially for those of us who aren’t terribly busty. I also like it on my frame since my collar bones are a bit prominent. With a dress like this, the key it to make sure it’s pretty fitted. If you’re a bride to be, this would be such a cute dress for engagement photos or a bridal shower. For graduates or for a trip, this would also be a fun dress especially if you have a tan going on!

Pro tip: I wouldn’t recommend dressing something like this down. I would either go a western route with cowboy boots or a delicate heel for a night out! While this is a more simplistic dress, it’s the perfect foundation for something a bit more elevated.

One Sleeve Jumpsuit

Our final piece isn’t exactly a dress but it’s still a fun dressy piece, a 70s inspired jumpsuit! I love the pleated texture and this rich orange color, while it may not be the most spring appropriate piece, it would be fun for a birthday party or a wedding. I also enjoy just how much movement the fabric has, it definitely made me dance around and was super flattering overall. As a midsize gal, it can be intimidating at times to wear voluminous pieces like this. I recommend finding something that flows over your hourglass figure and keep the accessorizes to a minimum so as to not compete with the garment itself.

Happy Shopping

I hope these dresses (and the jumpsuit) inspire your spring shopping! I know wedding season is practically here so these recommendations should help inspire you and realize what is trendy yet cute on a midsize body. I also want to encourage you to step a bit out of your comfort zone when shopping, there are so many outfit options out there that you may love without realizing!
