5 Midsize Winter Outfits to Recreate
5 Midsize Friendly Winter Outfits
Anyone else struggle with fashion come the middle of winter? I swear this is the toughest time of year to come up with outfits, especially looks that aren’t crazy bulky and boring. As a midsize girl in particular, I sometimes fear I look like a Michelin man in 10 layers of clothing plus big outerwear. Fortunately like doesn’t have to look like that with these 5 outfits.
In 2024, I began a personal style journey that included a lot of experimentation with textures, colors and accessories. I believe a combination of these details will make winter a bit less dreary and help you feel confident in your wardrobe! Now, let’s break down the following outfits!
One: Elevated Sweater and Jeans Outfit
Our first outfit is very much Pinterest inspired and definitely a branch out from my usual winter style. Online I keep seeing the fashion girlies trying tees and tanks under their sweaters and I figured it’s high time I test that combo out myself. I personally found a ribbed knit tank works well with my knitwear collection as it adds a great contrast. The key here is to let the top of the tank pop out of the sweater and not the bottom. I personally like to tuck part of the sweater into my denim and for some extra spunk I like to add a belt.
Pro Tip: go crazy with necklaces here! While it may seem overwhelming with the multiple textures at the base of the neck, it actually makes for an interesting overall outfit. Jewelry in my book is the perfect way to add personality to an outfit as it’s typically pieces you have curated over time. I always like to have a cross necklace on plus a colorful piece like my birth stone!
Two: Everyday Outfit for Snow Boots
If you live in a snowy climate like yours truly, you know how boring it can get wearing your snow boots multiple times a week. I oftentimes get boring with my weatherproof shoes but not in 2025. To stay trendy, I recommend styling yours with a loose jean and big sweater. Another perk of a wider leg jean is you can layer a tight or legging underneath without looking bulky. The key here is to still show your waist and keep your base nice and tight!
Pro Tip: think of your snow boots as your unexpected shoe. It’s a styling tip women like Mary Kate and Ashley swear by and it makes the outfit even cooler. The reason why this outfit works is the white pops out against the all black outfit.
Three: Incorporating Texture in your Layers Outfit
One of the best trends to come out of 2024 was the lace top trend. I am loving this underneath sweaters and dresses come wintertime. It’s a great way to provide visual interest to an outfit without taking away from other textures or more mundane outfits. I am really enjoying them right now under my oversized sweaters and sweatshirts. It’s keeping me a bit warmer than just wearing a knit plus it just looks cool!
Pro Tip: consider adding texture through accessories as well. I love a hat as a layer especially when it’s a beanie. Another great option is utilizing your socks as an accessory. I like wearing frilly socks or a colored sock with a skinny pant this time of year and letting it pop out on top of a boot. Anytime you can bring in an unexpected element into your outfit you are going to be golden!
Four: Staying Warm in a Dress Outfit
During the winter months I find myself at galas and special events here and there. As much as I love a special occasion, I know it can be difficult to stay warm during these activities. One tip is to layer like I do with my sweaters. I love a lace top under a dress, especially a slip style. You can also stay warm in that situation with an over the knee boot or a pair of fleece lined tights. My third tip is to add in an unexpected element like a square toed shoe to a long dress. I wore that combination recently to a Christmas party and felt beautiful!
Pro Tip: use this time to break out your fur! I invested in a vintage fur coat in 2024 and it’s my favorite thing. I like dressing it down with jeans for work but it’s best worn at special events as it adds the perfect statement.
Five: Tall Rubber Boots for Winter Outfit
Come wintertime there is nothing better than a solid weatherproof accessory. Coming back in style are the Hunter rain boots, a brand I’ve worn since high school! I recently got a pair of tall matte boots for the snow and rain and I’m pleased to say they are midsize girl approved. I was worried they would be too small for my calves but I have room and they are adjustable at the top. Although it’s challenging to have fun with fashion this time of year due to the dreary collection we find ourselves with of winter friendly accessories, I do think it’s fun to collect a few practical yet fashionable items to feel great while dressing down.
Pro Tip: break out skinny jeans with these boots! I’ve started wearing black skinny jeans again with these boots at business meeting and on my travels which has been super fun. I’ve always had a penchant for oversized tops so it’s a fun way to breathe new life into more classic outfits I find myself drawn to.
Happy Styling this Winter!
I hope this midsize friendly winter outfit post inspires you this season! I think it’s super fun pushing myself this time of year to help combat the seasonal depression. Alongside the tips above I also recommend dopamine dressing which is incorporating colors into your outfits. I find when I’m not wearing all black every day my mood is improved and I’m a lot more productive at work! It also has helped my body confidence this time of year when we sometimes feel the winter dullness. For more outfit ideas and to see these looks in the wild, be sure to follow my Instagram!
