Skagit Valley Tulip Festival Photoshoot Guide
Photo Guide for the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival
Last week I took myself to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in Mount Vernon, WA. I had never been to a tulip festival before but I am so glad I went! An event like this has been on my list for years so I was thrilled to finally go! I went on a Thursday afternoon and it was sunny and fairly warm since it was the end of April. If you can go during the week, I recommend doing that because it was quieter and easier to get some cool shots!
Tulip Town Photos
To kick off the flower festival, I had to share a few images that were not in the field! Sometimes when you come to a content heavy location there is a need to just take a bunch of photos in the main attraction but that shouldn’t be the case. When I go to spots like this, I enjoy wandering around and gathering a variety of photos to really mix it up! I’m so glad I did too, I think the wings were super fun and since there was a small amount of flowers that survived this year, I feel like I still was able to maximize my experience because I used the diverse backgrounds.
Tulip Photos
Here is the content you were waiting for! I absolutely love how these photos turned out, they are so springy and this outfit went perfectly with the flower fields. As previously mentioned, there was a flood earlier in the season that killed a lot of tulips so I had to make the most of the flowers that were around. Nonetheless I made sure to take my time with the flowers and get some standing, some sitting, and some utilizing the props they had.
Pro Tip: When you go, be weary of standing in the rows of flowers. You technically cannot go far into the flowers so be quick if you try to get some images like I have smelling the tulips.
Things to Note
When you are there, be sure to provide yourself with a lot of time to wander through the gardens and know there are a few farms in the area not just the one on maps. Also, there is some food and a small gift shop so you can come and eat if you want. There was no signage as of April 2022 for masks so you can wander freely. I personally spent $11 to get in at the gate, there is a discount for children if you bring them. I also recommend bringing a backpack with extra outfits if you do plan on an outfit change. I wish I knew that beforehand because I did want to shoot in another dress but I am still pleased with the pictures I got in my outfit.
Safe Travels
I hope you are now inspired to visit the flower festival in Skagit Valley! It’s about an hour north of Seattle and two hours north of Olympia. I recommend taking I5 up to Mount Vernon, the drive is beautiful and its easy to cruise on up. If you go alone, bring a tripod it’s totally allowed and snap away! I look forward to coming back and for more content, be sure to watch my mini vlog on Instagram.
Until next time,
Lauren
